Best Places to Buy Car Parts

Editor's Note: Rock Auto doesn't offer an affiliate program but they are by far the most well-known source for online auto parts at this time. If other websites don't have them listed near the top of similar articles, they ought to lose credibility right there.

Tip: Many online car part retailers now allow you to input your car’s VIN to help make sure the parts you’re wanting to get are actually compatible. With reputable retailers like the ones on this page, giving out your VIN is quite safe and I recommend doing so to avoid a parts return scenario.

#1 – Rock Auto

Rock Auto

Rock Auto is one of the easiest online part stores to navigate if you know what you’re looking for. The interface is simple, yet efficient. They have every make and model of vehicle and allow you to easily break everything down to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Whether you’re looking for parts for your daily driver or a more exotic import, they have the parts you’re looking for. Moreover, they source their parts from various auto manufacturers around the world, giving you access to some of the lowest prices around.

The tradeoff with Rock Auto is that they don’t offer free shipping on any of their parts, so if you’re looking to order multiple parts, you have to do a little extra research to try and get them from the same vendor to lower your shipping costs. But even with shipping, your total price for genuine parts is usually the lowest out there.

Rock Auto Coupon Code: Enter "244069773218681049" in the 'How Did You Hear About Us?' box during checkout to save 5%.

#2 – Parts Geek

Parts GeekParts Geek is a discount parts retailer that offers tons of OEM and aftermarket parts for various makes and models. They specialize in hard-to-find parts and provide them to you at a great value.

The tradeoff for all this convenience is some questionable customer service policies. For instance, if they send you the wrong part or parts are missing from your kit, they require that you ship the part back – at your own expense.

They won’t reimburse you for the shipping costs, and they won’t send out the right parts or missing parts unless you ship everything back. For those of us used to excellent customer service from Amazon and a handful of other retailers, its this retailers biggest negative.

However, Parts Geek is truly one of the most affordable parts retailers out there, so if you’re looking to save a few bucks, they are hard to beat. Just be sure to double-check your part numbers. Fortunately, they have an easy-to-use vehicle selector to ensure the parts you get will fit.

The biggest drawback with NAPA is that you’re buying from a specific brand. So, you won’t be getting OEM parts or even a ton of choices, and you’ll be getting NAPA parts every time.

  1. “The tradeoff with Rock Auto is that they don’t offer free shipping”

Just checked Rock Auto, not just they don’t offer “free shipping”, their shipping is astronomical

    1. You’re right it can be. Just keep in mind you’re paying for shipping with any merchant. Those offering free shipping simply tack it on to the product price. Always comparison shop.

  2. It’s interesting that you rank Advance Auto so high, especially based on their batteries. They sold bad batteries 3x for each of my 2 cars. That’s a lot of bad batteries (6)!!

  3. I need to get some parts for my 2005 mini van. Found your article very informative. Thank you so much for saving me the time it would of taken to discover these places on my own. Thanks!

  4. hello
do you sell range rover headlight and Steering rack or Audio amplifier and low arm for the Range hob and let me know the price range and i want you to ship them to MO and i will give you my credit card for full payment

    1. Summit is awesome if you’re looking for racing or performance parts. I understand they sell motorsports safety equipment as well.

      1. I was expecting to mostly find more expensive performance parts from Summit but was surprised that they had an axle shaft in stock for my Jeep that was unavailable from both 1A Auto and Rock auto, and for the same price they had it listed for. Checked a few more prices on parts and found out they had some of the other parts I needed at an even lower price than 1A Auto or Rockauto.

  5. Yeah, Rock Auto is a good source if they will sell to you. They used to sell to me, they advertise on local television stations, they send me email solicitations, but they refuse to sell to me. Something about not being able to split sales taxes between city/state agencies. Are they really still an American Company in business to make money???

  6. What do you think of bodeman auto parts they are on ebay and have parts for my 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier a set of front axle and wheel bearing hubs the whole package for $190.12 with free shipping how well do you rate these guys and the parts they sell please let me know thanks joel
